FREE WEBINAR: New Media, Old Fears – Telling Cold War Stories Online

DATE: 30/04/2026     TIME: 18:00 BST
How is the Cold War being rediscovered, reinterpreted, and retold in the digital age?

In this webinar, Ian Sanders FRHistS – creator of the acclaimed Cold War Conversations podcast – explores how digital storytelling is transforming the way we encounter Britain’s Cold War past. Through his collection of personal testimonies and lived experience, Ian will show how podcasts and online communities are reshaping public understanding of one of the twentieth century’s most defining periods.

Drawing on his recent work with the Avro Heritage Museum, Ian will also discuss how museums can use audio storytelling to bring histories to life, explain how the Avro team built a podcasting offer that engages new audiences, and how they successfully secured Arts Council England funding for new podcast recording kit.

Expect an honest, practical, and inspiring look at digital heritage in action, from narrative craft to community building to the realities of sustaining long‑form Cold War storytelling in the online era.

Ian’s presentation will be followed by a wide-ranging Q&A session. Questions for Ian can be submitted in advance via ryan.ellis@coldwarnetwork.co.uk.
