Alconbury Weald sits on the historic RAF airbase site and is rich in Cold War heritage. Visitors can explore the Grade II Cold War Avionics Building, completed in 1989 and designed to survive chemical and biological attack, which processed intelligence data collected by TR1 reconnaissance aircraft. During National Cold War Heritage Week, 1-hour curator-led tours reveal the building’s sophisticated design and its role in the UK’s Cold War operations. Tours offer a rare insight into the military’s secretive Cold War operations and how historic landmarks have been conserved and integrated into the modern mixed-use development. Visitors can learn about the base’s operational history and experience a unique Cold War site that remains largely hidden from the public eye.
