The UK heritage sector will come together on Friday 15 May 2026 for the official launch of National Cold War Heritage Week 2026, hosted at the Yorkshire Air Museum.
The event marks the start of a nationwide programme highlighting the people, places and stories that shaped Britain’s Cold War experience.
The launch brings together leading organisations including The Cold War Network, York Army Museum, English Heritage, and the Yorkshire Air Museum, offering new insights into recent research, site‑based discoveries and the ongoing work to preserve Cold War history across the UK.
Dr Peter Robinson, Chair of The Cold War Network, said:
“National Cold War Heritage Week is about recognising a period of history that is often overshadowed, yet continues to shape our world. This year’s programme brings forward new research, new voices and new opportunities for the public to engage with Cold War heritage in meaningful ways.”
The event will also feature a live presentation from Iain Betson, formerly of the Wartime Broadcasting Service, exploring how Britain prepared to communicate in the event of nuclear attack.
