Announcing a change to Cold War Network Events

As the Cold War Network continues to grow, we are pleased to announce a new structure for our two flagship annual events, designed to provide greater value, variety, and opportunities for members to engage with Cold War heritage.

From 2026 onwards, the Network will host:

A Members’ Day each October: an informal gathering focused on visiting and exploring a significant Cold War site, providing members with the opportunity to network, share interests, and enjoy exclusive access to heritage locations.

We would also be pleased to discuss opportunities for additional Membersโ€™ Days throughout the year.

An Annual Cold War Network Conference each February: a larger event combining specialist talks, presentations, and discussions with site tours and behind-the-scenes access. The conference will bring together speakers, researchers, heritage professionals, and enthusiasts from across the sector to explore key themes in Cold War history and heritage.

We are delighted to confirm that our first Members’ Day under this new format will take place at Drakelow Tunnels in October 2026. This unique site provides an ideal setting for an informal gathering and offers members the chance to explore one of Britain’s most fascinating Cold War locations.

Looking ahead, the 2027 Annual Cold War Network Conference will be hosted by The Tank Museum, Bovington. The event will combine a programme of talks and presentations with opportunities to explore the museum’s collections and gain insights behind the scenes. Further details, including dates, speakers, and booking information, will be announced by October.

We believe this new approach will allow us to better serve our growing membership by offering both a relaxed, site-focused event and a more substantial annual conference, ensuring there is something for everyone with an interest in Cold War history and heritage.

Alongside these changes, we are introducing a modest charge for our face-to-face events. Historically, Cold War Network meetings have been offered free of charge; however, as attendance has grown, we have increasingly experienced situations where individuals book places but are unable to attend, preventing others from taking part and making event planning more difficult. The introduction of a small fee will help ensure that places are used effectively while also allowing us to provide light refreshments and cover essential event costs.

As a volunteer-led organisation, the Cold War Network’s operating costs have increased significantly as we have expanded our activities, membership, events programme, marketing, and heritage initiatives. While we remain committed to keeping membership free and ensuring our events are affordable and accessible, a small contribution from attendees will help us continue delivering high-quality opportunities for members while supporting the Network’s long-term sustainability.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Everything we achieve is made possible by the enthusiasm, commitment, and generosity of our members, partners, volunteers, and supporters.
